HAYING SEASON IS UPON US

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

So it has been a couple of weeks since I have done up anything for my blog. This is the season that all the cattle are turned out to summer range.

The fun part is riding out to check on them. For now its full bore ahead to getting the hay done for winter feeding. Who doesn’t like the fresh smell of hay being cut and/or baled? The weather this last week has finally come around, with no rain or wicked storms. Did we ever get some wicked storms here, or what? It went from one extreme to another. The hay fields are being cut and put up for hay. Some of the fields that are being done are not small fields. Some took over an hour to do three rounds of the field. This was tiring, especially when you don’t have the big swather to cut with. I don’t mind getting the phone call to bring a drink or snack out to the fields, when the days are hot.

When I get the option to go out now, this gives me the chance to take some pictures. When I was young my mom would always bring us some good old style baking treats out. I always looked forward to this. I put the recipe below for one of my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes. It’s always a favorite with the guys.

I am now starting to put together my pictures for my calendars and day planner. It’s starting to look pretty darn good. I also have some new greeting cards printed. Go check these out on my website.

Don’t forget to go check out the gallery in Cochrane {Route 22} I have 5 pictures(I just sold one) that were juried in for this month, they will be there, for sale, until the end of August.

I’ve also added new things to my website, so check this out too.

I came up with a name for my cookbook, ‘Beyond the Fence’. I chose this name as it relates to what I am trying to put in my book. Old recipes that I used while cooking in cow camps. Then stories that would of happened on the other side of the fence. I am getting very excited about this book.

I am still open to receiving more of your stories and poems for my cookbook. “Keep ‘em coming!” I have already put in some of my wacky stories so now I need yours. So please go to my webpage, follow this link https://www.wayofthewest.net/your-stories-poems to send me your stories. You can also email me at barbarasphotos@outlook.com with the subject line, ‘Stories & Poems’.

I will leave with these quotes, and recipe below
