Young Guns
Whenever I head out into the bush to photograph wild horses, I always hope to capture that one perfect shot. Most days, it doesn’t happen—but on this particular day, it did.
We came across a group of bachelor stallions, and they’re always a treat to watch. They remind me of teenage boys—full of energy and mischief. That day, they were playing and sparring in a recently logged area. Suddenly, they ran past me and charged up a bank. I knew I had something special, so I followed them.
At the top, I found the perfect vantage point. I stayed low, camera ready—and I wasn’t disappointed.
This image went on to be showcased at the Calgary Stampede and was also included in my PPOC (Professional Photographers of Canada) accreditation portfolio for equine photography. It was accepted at both the national and provincial Salon with PPOC.
